Which South of France are you?
Our travels took us for a rail trip from Béziers to Marseille, Cannes and Nice.
Marseille was as always, distinctive. The port area ringed with restaurants, I saw a rainbow that deserved a photo. Little time to really explore unfortunately.
Marseille old port
Cannes was small and busy, lots of internet guides will tell you more about it, yes there are posh shops, but in the evening, it was a long continuous traffic jam, all along the sea front. People sitting in the cars, not moving, look at me, whilst I look at you.
A boring google street view pic I know, but my abiding impression, high end brands and traffic.
Nice, was, err… nice, a Jazz festival was on. We liked it, perhaps not as much as Montpellier, but again it was crowded, and as for the beach, it is not one. Sharp stones and a narrow strip of shore filled with people who could not get comfortable, ouch! - if I could just move that one under my shoulder.
You will need those water shoes.
Eating out was lovely but noticeably more expensive than the Languedoc. There was lots more tourist bling on show, look at what I buy, look at my brand. I am being a little unfair perhaps. There are no doubt, fabulous little off the beaten tracks to explore especially inland. It was France, the showcase, the display cabinet. But it wasn’t the France I was more used to, we don’t do bling really. Our cars might be older, and a good hand bag is just that. But come to the Languedoc and relax, more wine, more oysters, and much more sand.
From your car to the beach… I think I can just about make it!
